Dropbox Support for Mac OS X 10.5.8: A Call for Continuation

As an individual who has already adapted to running outdated operating systems supported by Apple, I'm not too concerned about the lack of support from Dropbox for Mac OS X 10.5.8. However, I understand the importance of syncing files across my local network and the internet, even if it means no further updates to the application.

I agree with fellow users who have expressed their desire to continue using Dropbox, albeit without future application updates. The service has been a significant time-saver for me, and being completely disconnected from it would be devastating. I also have machines that can't be upgraded beyond Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger), which still see occasional use.

As platforms age, they become increasingly costly to support, and I understand the decision made by Dropbox. However, many users, like myself, rely on older PowerPC-based PPC Macs that cannot be upgraded beyond Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). Supporting these older platforms is indeed extra work, requiring different build platforms, tools, and library versions.

While it's unfortunate that something had to break or become unsupported, I believe that eight years was ample time for users to plan their upgrades. The onus lies with us, the users, to adapt to changes in technology.

As a side note, I also have a 2006 Mac Pro running Windows Server and use my current workstation, a 2010 MacBook Pro, which runs the latest Windows 8.1. When support for these machines eventually ends, I won't be disappointed, as they've served me well.

Ultimately, while an eight-year-old machine might still be useful, it's unrealistic to expect others to continue supporting our endeavors to use them.
